The portable document format is the go-to file format when it comes to exchanging documents containing text, images, and even interactive content. A lot has changed since the early days of Project Camelot and PDF has developed from a proprietary document format into several ISO standards while maintaining it's backbone: consistent representation on all platforms.
With its several sub-standards PDF covers everything from invoices ready for long-time archiving to full-scale maps of entire continents.
But why is it so hard to edit a PDF document and why do you sometimes get funky shapes when you highlight text in a PDF? How do you redact secret document properly and how can you utilize PDF to sneak files through content filters?
In this talk I will address these questions and some more and we will take a look into the almost infinite depths of this omnipresent document format.
